General Note for series.
This series of four 4-4-0 tender locomotives was inspired by a former vintage series first issued in 1929/30 by Hornby. The ACE series differs in the following respects in that the electrics are completely new. They include provision for 2/3 rail operation via a switch on the locomotive, a clutch mechanism that enables the main driving wheels to be rotated when not under power and an isolation switch enabling the locomotive to be parked on a live section of track. All these functions are a subject of a patent held by the manufacturer.
